WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACRO & GYMNASTICS

FAQ

  • Sport/Art - Gymnastics is concidered a sport while AcroDance is concidered an art. With gymnastics, dance is secondary. Acro dance is the opposite- solid dance training is essential to the success of the Acro dancer. Unlike gymnastics, Acro dancers need to flow in and out of skills to create seamless transitions into dance choreography.

  • Gymnastic skills are preformed with optimal value in mind while acrodance skills are executed for expressive performance.

  • AcroDance instructors teach different technique to gymnastic coaches, to accomplish similar looking skills for stage performance.

  • Sprung gymnastic flooring allows for powerfull high level tumbling, while the dance stage requires soft landings and expressive, artistic movement.

IS THERE A UNIFORM?

Yes.  We found our students learn best when they're in their uniform and feeling part of our community.
Uniform is more strict for certain classes such as Ballet.
School Aged students receive a free uniform t-shirt upon enrolment.

DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO DO COMPETITIONS?

No. Most of our students attend classes for recreation and to work up through our levels at their own pace.
For those who are driven to undertake dance in an elite and competitive setting, we offer our Industry/Pre-professional setting.

IS ACRO SAFE

The desire and effort towards pushing our limits and further our skills is a positive one, and as long as dancers pursue their Acro Dance goals with mindfulness, wisdom and knowledge, under the direction of a trained professional it is completely safe. It is safe when skills are taught incrementally and with an Acrobatic Teacher certified in safe training practices. At Ignite we follow the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus.

The Acrobatic Arts Syllabus is endorsed by physiotherapists, professional dancers and professional acrobats including Cirque Du Soleil Acrobats.

The Acrobatic Arts syllabus is internationally recognized as the best, with over 6000 teachers world wide. (United Kingdom, Europe, USA, Canada, Guatemala, South Africa, Singapore, Australia and 30 other countries!) Approximately 450,000 dancers now follow the Acrobatic Arts Method.

HOW LONG DO CLASSES GO FOR?

Our Acro Tots classes are 30 minutes, all other weekly classes are 45 minutes.
